With profound sorrow, we inform you of the untimely passing of our dear friend and JU Alumni Sydney Chapter member, Tapas Debray. He breathed his last on 25 November , 2025 in Sydney leaving behind his family and friends.
Tapas Debray completed his Bachelor of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) from Jadavpur University in 1986.
He began his professional journey at HCL R&D in Chennai, where he worked on research and development projects early in his career that shaped his technical grounding. In 1987, he moved to Australia beginning a long and accomplished global career. In Australia, he worked with Sony and later joined Qantas, contributing across major technology and systems initiatives.
During his tenure with Sony and Qantas, he spent time in Japan and the UK, working on international assignments that expanded his professional footprint. In the later years of his career, he moved into high-level strategic roles — first with Infosys Consulting, and most recently as a Lead Architect/Consultant with the Australian Defence sector in Canberra, where he applied his decades of experience to critical national.

We support students back at Jadavpur University through sponsorships, while bringing our alumni together in Sydney through picnics, dinners, and cultural programs that celebrate our shared heritage.
